    Predefinito Ho buttato i soldi della RAM

    Ho acquistato due banchi da 512M da aggiungere ai due già presenti per ottenere almeno 2G.
    Li ho inseriti degli appositi alloggiamenti, ma il sistema continua a vedere solo 1G.
    Per curiosità ho smontato le vecchie memorie e le ho sostituite con le nuove: lo vede benissimo, il suo bravo giga. Quindi le memorie nuove funzionano.
    Installo anche le vecchie negli altri slot e ne vede sempre e comunque solo 1G.

    QUindi Ubuntu in realtà vede 4 slot occupati e 2 Giga di RAM.

    Ma se lancio da terminale il comando free ecco cosa vedo

    Le istruzioni della MOBO dicono che si possono installare fino a 4 banchi da 1 Giga l'uno per un massimo di 4.
    Inoltre segnalo un'ulteriore curiosità: all'avvio del boot, mi appare (tra le altre) questa scritta

    memorie diverse comprate in tempi diversi possono non essere compatibili, dovevi portare quelle vecchie per fartene dare di più simili possibile, prova a portarle e farti cambiare le nuove

    il bios può vederle ma il sistema è incapace di utilizzarle

    cmq nel bios dovrebbe esserci un'opzione per aumentare la compatibilità delle memorie

    Una volta, sulle schede madri vecchie, non era possibile montare banchi di memoria di differente capacità... però mi pare di capire che tu hai aggiunto 2 banchi ai 2 già esistenti (stessa capacità), quindi potrebbe essere un problema di incompatibilità?
